Dinesh Allirajah Prize For Short Fiction

I received an email yesterday telling me all about this brand new short fiction competition, and I thought you guys might like to know about it, so here it is.

Comma Press and University of Central Lancashire have teamed up and launched their first short fiction competition, in honour of Dinesh Allirajah. Dinesh, who lectured in creative writing at the University for 8 years, and who was a long-term director of Comma Press, passed away suddenly in 2015.

In honour of Dinesh the theme for this years competition will be 'cafe stories', so chosen because of Dinesh's 'Cafe Shorts' series, which he posted regularly on his blog; Real Time Short Stories.
He believed cafe's to be 'fertile ground for the short story,' saying that 'the reason the cafe setting works is because we understand what goes on there, without the gauze of a local or historical context.'

This competition is open to anyone over the age of 18, as long as the story submitted has not been previously published - including online and in print.
The closing date is the 31st of October 2017.

The winning entries will be announced on the 8th of May 2018, Dinesh's birthday.
The overall winner will receive a prize of £500, and, along with another 9 shortlisted stories, will be published in an ebook anthology which will then be sold online.

To find out more about this competition, or to enter, visit the Comma Press website here.

Happy Writing & Good Luck
